Decorative Concrete Coatings

Decorative Concrete Coatings done right the first time

Plain gray concrete wears out its welcome. Patios and walkways fade and pit, stairs look tired, a pool deck turns slick when it gets wet, and stains from leaves, rust and irrigation water set into the surface. Tearing it all out is rarely necessary. A good decorative coating gives sound concrete a new color and texture, adds grip where people walk barefoot or in the rain, and seals the surface against the strong Rogue Valley sun and the wet winters that follow. The hard part is getting a coating to stay down.

Coatings are the core of what Rogue Valley Concrete Pro does. We grind or shot-blast the concrete clean first, because that prep is what makes a coating stay down, then lay a primer and base coat, the decorative layer and a clear UV-stable polyurethane or polyaspartic topcoat. Our jobs include an old stamped walkway restored and coated with a quartz sand epoxy system, worn stairs restored and given a new coating, and pool decks patched and coated. We use systems from Sika, Simiron, Sherwin-Williams and EcoPoxy.

What's included

Our decorative concrete coatings services

  • 01

    Decorative flake systems

A base coat broadcast with decorative flake for a speckled finish that hides dirt and wear, sealed under a clear topcoat.

  • 02

    Metallic epoxy

Metallic pigments worked into epoxy for a swirled, marbled floor in living spaces, basements, shops and showrooms.

  • 03

    Colored quartz sand systems

Colored quartz sand broadcast into epoxy for a tough, textured surface. It is the system we used over a restored stamped walkway.

  • 04

    Slip-resistant coatings

Textured, slip-resistant finishes for pool decks, walkways, steps and patios where feet are wet or bare.

  • 05

    Patios, decks, balconies and driveways

Residential coatings for patios, concrete decks, balconies, driveways and sidewalks, plus garage floors inside.

  • 06

    Repair before coating

Cracks, spalls and worn edges are repaired first by epoxy injection, routing and sealing or patching, so the coating goes over sound concrete.

How it works

How a concrete coating job works

  1. 1

    Free on-site estimate

We look at the concrete, check it for cracks, moisture and old sealers, and walk you through flake, metallic and quartz sand options.

  2. 2

    Grind or blast clean

We diamond-grind or shot-blast the surface and make repairs, so the coating bonds to open, clean concrete.

  3. 3

    Primer, base and decorative layer

The primer and base coat go down, then the flake broadcast, metallic swirl or colored sand.

  4. 4

    Clear topcoat and cure

A clear UV-stable polyurethane or polyaspartic topcoat seals the finish, and it cures properly before the surface goes back into use.

  • “I hired Concrete Coating Enterprises LLC to do extensive concrete work on my family’s historic 1920s log cabin, and I couldn’t be happier with my experience! The cabin had significant cracks and issues with its original concrete floors. They removed the damaged sections, properly prepared the foundation, and poured new concrete in the kitchen and dining areas. They also created beautiful custom brick landings, curved steps, and charcoal-colored concrete walkways incorporating original natural stones from our family property. Their attention to detail and craftsmanship are outstanding! What I appreciated just as much as the quality of their work was their excellent communication, reliability, and professionalism. They showed up when expected, kept me informed throughout the project, listened to my ideas, and worked with me to achieve the look I wanted. Renovating a cabin over 100 years old comes with unexpected challenges, and they handled the work with care, patience, and pride.”

  • “I had collected about three or four different estimates and Tim's price was lowest. I determined to see why it was lowest and see if I could endure that. Instead, what I discovered is Tim's job was way more than anybody else was offering instead of setting a 6 inch beam in my Spa slab. He said a 12 inch beam and he increased the rebar to half inch. But it really impressed me was another job he did for me on the sidewalk where the same as with the spa he used 4 inches of crushed rock compacted before he lay his forms out and then instead of using wire he actually use rebar. Basically he's an old-fashioned guy working in today's times where his work is more important than his profits.”

  • “Tim was undoubtedly our best choice for a concrete floor on which to build a shed/storage building. They not only arrived on time and as promised, but their staff was always very friendly, helpful, and courteous. Best of all, they did an exceptional job. In the end, the concrete floor turned out even better than we expected, and they also left our backyard spotless after packing up all their tools. We would definitely hire Concrete Coating Enterprises again and highly recommend them.”

Questions

Decorative Concrete Coatings FAQs

Will a concrete coating hold up outdoors in the Rogue Valley?

Yes, with the right system and prep. Hot, dry summers with strong UV fade and chalk store-bought paints, and wet winters with frost on the valley floor and freezes at higher elevations push water into anything that is not bonded. We grind or blast first and finish outdoor work with a UV-stable topcoat made for sun and weather.

How much does a decorative concrete coating cost?

It depends on the square footage, how much repair the concrete needs and which system you pick, since flake, metallic and quartz sand each go on differently. Coating sound concrete is usually far less work than tearing it out and pouring new. We give you a free estimate after seeing the surface, and we accept credit cards.

Can you coat old or stamped concrete?

Yes, as long as the concrete is sound or can be repaired. We restored an old stamped walkway and coated it with a quartz sand epoxy system, and we have restored worn stairs and given them a new coating. Loose, broken or heaved sections are cut out and replaced first.

What is the difference between flake, metallic and quartz sand?

Flake is a speckled finish that hides dirt and is a common pick for garages. Metallic epoxy gives a glossy, marbled look suited to indoor floors. Quartz sand is a textured, colored system that adds grip, which makes it a strong choice for walkways, steps and pool decks.

Will a coated surface be slippery?

It does not have to be. Outdoor and pool deck coatings get a slip-resistant texture built into the system, and indoor floors can have grip added to the topcoat. We match the texture to where the surface is and how it is used.
